The Chaplin Townhouse is located in the historic Brooklyn neighborhood of Carroll Gardens. It was designed for an accomplished travel writer, who contributed greatly to the design process, with exotic and unique ideas for furnishings and finishes. The addition of gold fixtures, bohemian furniture, and metallic wallpaper come to the fore in the pared-down spaces.

The townhome was gutted by a previous owner and no historic details remained, giving ERA a blank slate to start with. Select period details were recreated and original finishes were unearthed. A new deck, stairway, and parlor-level kitchen were added; air conditioning was strategically integrated; and new windows were installed throughout.
